Japanese Hot Stone Therapy

Japanese hot stone therapy is a relaxing treatment using hot stones and essential oils along the meridian channels and then placing the stones on the area of each organ, on the upper back the stones are placed on the Lung and Spleen area, and lower back the Kidney area with the patient lying face down, stones are left on for approximately 15 minutes.

The patient then turns over and the stones are positioned in the abdomen area (Hara in Japanese) the practitioner will continue to treat the arm meridians and leg meridians approximately 30 minutes, finally hot towels are placed over the patient and is left to relax for another 15 minutes.

How does Japanese Hot Stone Therapy work

Japanese hot stones heat the muscles, joints, and meridian channels of the Zang-Fu Organs dispelling the excess cold from the body, the hot stones are rubbed along the meridian channels to remove the Deficient Cold then placed on the skin above the organs, on the upper back the stones are placed on the Lung and Spleen area, and lower back the Kidney area to Tonify the Deficient Organs and bring heat back into the body.

External Cold/Internal Cold

External cold is caused by cold climate, or cold foods and iced beverages. It manifests in the body and can attack joints, muscles or meridian channels this is an excess cold pattern. Internal Cold is further divided into Deficient Cold which is Yang deficiency of the Zang Organs Lungs, Spleen, or Kidneys. Excess Cold damages the Zang Organs Lungs, Spleen, Kidneys and the Fu Organs Large Intestine, Stomach, Bladder this leads to Yang deficiency generally caused by external and cold food and cold drinks in the winter time.
